The Government wants everyone who is capable of work to be given the full opportunity to do so. The Disability Discrimination Act is the legislation which underpins this philosophy. It is important for employers, as well as employees with disabilities, to be familiar with the responsibilities of employers in the workplace.

The Disability Discrimination Act gives people with disabilities equal opportunities in employment and training. The Provisions laid out in the legislation apply to employers who employ 15 or more staff.

By treating the person less favourably than other employees or applicants because of the disability, or by not making reasonable adjustments (without justification).

Jobcentre Plus have Disability Employment Advisers who offer employment assessments, and offer advice on jobsearch and training. The New Deal for Disabled People offers individually tailored help in finding a job, the opportunity to gain high quality training and is a chance to show employers what can be done.
