Learning Questions
I’m not sure about signing up for a course, it worries me that I won’t know anyone, and what if I don’t know as much as the other class members?
You might not know anyone when you arrive, but this is normally true of everyone in the first class. Remember you have all chosen the same course, so you have that in common at least! There are likely to be others feeling the same nerves as you, so try talking to the person next to you, find out their name or about their interest in the course. Staff at your chosen college or a nextstep Adviser can help you to choose the right level course for you so you won’t be out of your depth. For more help on learning check our Guide to Your Learning Opportunities.
There is a course that I want to do, but in the prospectus it says I need certain qualifications to be able to apply for it. What should I do?
When adults apply for courses they don’t necessarily have to have all the qualifications stated in the prospectuses and course guides. Most colleges will recognise your skills and experience in place of the stated qualifications. They may require that you complete an introductory course to show that you are suited to the subject. The college itself will be able to give you lots of information and advice about suitability for your chosen course of study.
